Taft-Hartley Act is adopted in Washington, D.C.

June 23, 1947

U.S. Senate joins the House of Representatives in overriding President Harry S Truman’s veto to pass the legislation. The law limits the power of organized labor by prohibiting mass picketing and secondary boycotts, allowing suits for “unfair labor practices,” and abolishing the closed shop.
